I would definitely say to get a Parakeet. Especially if it is hand fed from birth. Parakeets, or budgies, are extremely sociable, and bond with humans so well. They also can be so many different colors. this is a pretty good pic i just pulled of the net for you. If you have ANY questions, please e-mail me.

If training is done properly and consistently any Bird you choose will be fine. However ,since you are a first time Birdie owner, choose from the smaller birds, and try a male first. Some to choose from are Budgies(the easiest),Lovebirds(little clowns),and Finches(they make the cutest little sounds).Research ANY Birdie you get as much as possible! You will need to know its dietary needs, social needs, how to train it properly, and what to do if it gets sick. Most birds need a Pellet diet, with the exception of the Budgie, you can feed Seed and Pellets. All Birdies should have other foods as well:Veggies,rice,breads,noodles,hard-boiled eggs once a week, and small amounts of fruits. No Avocados, sugar, salt, caffeine,or chocolate. My Birdies eat with me from a plate I make for them, like whatever Veggie we are having that night,no butter added. If they see you eat it ,often they will ,too.Anyway, have fun picking your Birdie...!

I would have to agree with the suggestions of a dove, or a bourke's.

But really, the tame-ness (is that a word? lol) of a bird depends on the individual bird. Though some species are known as being tamer than others, there are always exceptions.

Pick a type of bird that sticks out to you. Research it, see if the generalizations in personality fit what you're looking for. If it does, go to rescues/shelters/or small reputable hobby breeders and get to know one. If it is a fit for you, then you've found your bird.

I would say, if you like parakeets, to get a Bourke's parakeet.

They are friendlier and quieter then any other kind of parakeets. And they have IMO beautiful coloring.
